The last date to register for the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025 is today, September 13, 2025. Candidates aiming to pursue an MBA from the prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other top business schools in the country must complete their online application at iimcat.ac.in before the deadline.

This year, the exam is being conducted by IIM Kozhikode and will take place on November 30, 2025, across 170 cities in India. Candidates can choose their preferred test city from a list of five options while registering.

The admit cards will be available for download between November 5 and November 30, 2025, and the exam will be conducted in three shifts on the scheduled date. Results are expected to be declared in the first week of January 2026.

Exam Structure and Importance

CAT is the gateway to admissions not only in the IIMs but also in other leading management institutes such as FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, and IIT B-schools. It assesses candidates on three major areas:

  • Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

  • Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension (VARC)

  • Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)

With only a few months left for the exam, focused preparation and a clear strategy are crucial.

Preparation Tips for CAT 2025

1. Build a Strategy

Having a proper study plan is the key to success. Divide your preparation time across the three core sections—QA, VARC, and DILR—ensuring consistent practice in each area.

2. Identify and Improve Weak Areas

Focus not only on your strengths but also on the sections where you struggle the most. Whether it’s arithmetic, reading comprehension, or logical puzzles, dedicate extra time to practice challenging topics.

3. Strengthen Communication Skills

Clearing CAT is only the first step. The selection process also involves Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Candidates must work on improving their communication, reading newspapers daily, and practicing fluent English speaking to boost confidence.

4. Take Mock Tests Seriously

Regular mock tests are vital to evaluate performance. Attempt at least one or two tests per week and analyze mistakes carefully. Focus on improving accuracy, speed, and time management as the exam date approaches.

5. Keep Multiple Options Open

While IIMs are the top choice for many, don’t ignore other reputed B-schools like FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, SPJIMR Mumbai, and IIT management programs. Explore all opportunities to secure a place in a good institute.

6. Be Consistent

Consistency matters more than last-minute cramming. Balance your schedule with study, revision, and rest to avoid burnout. Daily practice and gradual improvement are better than hurried preparation close to the exam.

7. Stay Updated

Keep checking the official CAT website for important announcements, changes in the exam pattern, and admit card notifications. Missing even a single update can affect your preparation and performance.
