A caught woman is named Anjila Khatoon, who was caught from the area of West Bengal. She is the first such female prisoner to be caught by SSB. All the prisoners were caught at various posts of the Indo-Nepal border with Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. According to officials, these prisoners did not have any valid identity card, due to which SSB detained them.
According to the report, there is a strict monitoring on the border. Therefore, the number of prisoners caught may increase. All the arrested people have been handed over to the police, which is further investigating and taking legal action. Officials said that after recent incidents of jail break in Nepal, SSB had increased vigilance. Violent protests in Nepal led to attacks, arson and sabotage on several jails. Taking advantage of this, thousands of prisoners escaped from jails. In response, SSB increased monitoring on the open Indo-Nepal border, started strict identity checks and increased patrolling in sensitive areas. SSB has deployed additional soldiers so that no fugitive prisoner can enter India.
Officials said that some fugitive prisoners were trying to enter India on the pretext of work or business, but were caught due to lack of valid identity cards. An official said, “Our vigilance is to ensure that no fugitive prisoner can misuse the open border of India-Nepal.” It may be noted that SSB works under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is responsible for the security of the 1751 km long India-Nepal border. This border passes through Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.
