Jajpur: In a disturbing incident, a 27-year-old tuition instructor was taken into custody in Jajpur district, Odisha, on Saturday for allegedly molesting a minor student during class, as reported by local authorities.

The police revealed that the incident occurred on Wednesday when the accused reportedly misbehaved with a 10th-grade girl at his private tuition center. The girl confided in her mother about the incident, prompting the family to lodge a formal complaint with the police on Thursday.

Following the complaint, law enforcement registered a case under pertinent sections of the POCSO Act and initiated an investigation. The police recorded the minor's statement and subsequently apprehended the suspect on Saturday, according to Ansumala Das, Inspector-in-Charge of Bayree police station.

"We are currently investigating the matter. The minor's statement has been documented, and we are also interviewing other students to determine if the accused has a history of similar behavior," the inspector stated.

The accused has been presented before the local court, where his bail application was denied, leading to his remand in judicial custody, as confirmed by police.
