Durga Das Uikey, the Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, reached Bharmour late Saturday night after traveling from Chamba. He received a warm welcome from local MLA Dr. Janak Raj, who presented him with a traditional Himachali shawl, cap, and a ceremonial Gaddi pattū, symbolizing cultural respect. Dr. Raj's parents also took part in the reception, personally handing over the pattū.


Significant Discussions on Local Issues

On Sunday morning, Dr. Janak Raj briefed the minister on various urgent local matters and submitted formal memorandums requesting central assistance and intervention.


Key Requests for Tribal Development

Among the key requests were:



  • Granting tribal status to 24 panchayats in the Mahela block and incorporating them into the Tribal Sub-Plan.

  • Upgrading the Pathankot–Killar road to enhance access to the remote Pangi region.

  • Establishing a ropeway from Bhanodi to Pregan to promote tourism and connectivity.

  • Bringing the Holi–Uttarala road under central jurisdiction for improved maintenance.

  • Including the sacred Manimahesh Yatra under the PRASAD scheme for pilgrimage tourism.

  • Enhancing security and infrastructure around the historic Chaurasi Temple complex.

  • Constructing a tunnel between Brehi and Kareri to facilitate travel and regional development.

  • Expanding and upgrading National Highway 154A for better transportation.


A Hopeful Future for Bharmour

Dr. Janak Raj expressed optimism that Minister Uikey would give serious attention to these proposals, which could lead to inclusive development in Bharmour and its surrounding tribal areas.



The visit was perceived as a reaffirmation of the government's commitment to tribal welfare and regional development. Local leaders and community members regarded the minister's presence as a promising step towards much-needed infrastructural and cultural support.
