Engineers Day is celebrated in India on 15 September every year. This day is dedicated to those engineers, who help in the development of society and country with their hard work, knowledge and innovation. On this day, engineers are respected across the country and there is an attempt to inspire them. Let’s know the history and importance of Engineers Day.

History of Engineers Day

Let us tell you that celebrating ‘Engineers Day’ started on the birth anniversary of Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He was born on 15 September 1861. He was the great engineer, educationist and visionary leader of India. He was also awarded the Bharat Ratna. He increased irrigation and water facilities in Karnataka by constructing Krishnaraj Sagar Dam. Apart from this, flood security system was also created for the city of Hyderabad.

In view of his contribution, in 1968, the Government of India declared 15 September as National Engineers Day. This day is celebrated to tell the role of engineers and the importance of their work.

Objective of Engineers Day

  • Inspiration to the youth- To motivate the youth to make a career in engineering through Dr. Visvesvaraya’s actions.
