Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil has opened up about his horrific health scare that forced the band to cancel their coveted Las Vegas residency earlier this year. The iconic 80s rock group was set to perform 11 shows at the Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas, but in March, the band announced that their performances were postponed due to Vince needing a "medical procedure". Now, the 64-year-old musician has revealed that he suffered a stroke over Christmas, which left him unable to walk.

He told fans during a recent Mötley Crüe gig: "I had to learn to walk again, and that was tough". The vocalist explained that the stroke affected his entire left side and that the path to recovery wasn't easy.

The dad-of-three shared medical professionals' concerns about his career in music with the Las Vegas Review Journal, admitting: "The doctors said they didn't think I'd be able to go back on stage again. I go, 'No, no. I'm going to do it, watch and see."

Despite his unwavering determination, the recovery process was a long and demanding one. Vince described needing assistance even to cover short distances, revealing: "I went from people carrying me to the bathroom, because I couldn't walk myself, finally to a wheelchair."

With time, the star gradually progressed to using a cane before fully regaining his independence. He added: "Now I don't need anything. But it's like a full-time job getting back to where you feel good again."

He went on to reveal that he has returned to "90 - 95 percent of where I was before." Much of his rehabilitation took place in the comfort of his own home in Nashville, where he focused on regaining his strength and becoming independent again, away from prying eyes.

Vince has since expressed his gratitude to his bandmates Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee, and John 5, who supported him throughout his recovery and agreed to postpone the Las Vegas shows.

When the string of gigs was first cancelled, he addressed fans in a heartfelt statement: "To all the Crüeheads who were looking forward to seeing us this Spring, I'm truly sorry. My health is my top priority, so I can bring you the awesome shows you deserve."

He also thanked fans for their continued support, adding: "Thank you for all the well wishes that keep reaching me. Your support means more than you know."

His bandmates also publicly encouraged fans to pass on their well-wishes online, writing: "Please join us in wishing Vince a speedy recovery. We are looking forward for him to get well again and take over Vegas together in September."

The postponed residency stay has now been rescheduled. The band will take the stage from September 12 to October 3. Fans who had previously purchased tickets will be able to use them for the new dates.

It comes after Neil also narrowly avoided dying in a plane crash this February. His girlfriend Rain Andreani and her friend were both on board the plane, as well as the singer's long-time pilot Joie Vitosky, who died in the crash.

Rain, 43, had five broken ribs after the terrifying ordeal, and her friend Ashley sustained severe injuries when they were rushed to the hospital. Vince was not on board the plane because he decided to celebrate a close friend's birthday in Florida at the time.
