The latest incident occurred on the road connecting Latehar district headquarters to Saryu, Garu, Mahuadand and Netarhat. The road has collapsed due to landslides in Saryu Valley. Actually, a large part of Latehar district is considered a plateau area. The block and police station areas including Saryu, Garu, Mahuadand and Netarhat of the district are located in the plateau areas. The valleys have to be crossed to reach these areas. There are high hills on one side of the road and deep valleys on the other side. In the rainy season, when heavy rains occur, it becomes dangerous to pass through the valleys. This year, due to heavy rains, there is continuous landslide in the valleys. A few days ago, landslides occurred in the Caseand Valley of Latehar district, which disrupted traffic for about 8 to 10 hours.

Meanwhile, landslides occurred in Saryu Valley, which blocked the only road connecting Latehar district headquarters to Saryu Block Headquarters. A large part of the road collapsed at a place in the Ghati, disrupting the movement of heavy vehicles. However, small vehicles are running carefully. Local villagers Mohammad Imran said that the landslide in the valley has caused panic among the people. He said that this road is one of the most important roads in Latehar district. This is the easiest way to go from the district headquarters to Saryu, Garu, Mahuadand, Netarhat and Chhattisgarh. Hundreds of vehicles run daily on this road. However, landslides have caused panic among people. He has demanded from the district administration that wherever there is a possibility of landslides, immediate repair and relief work should be started so that there is no major incident.

Department started repair work

After receiving information about the road sinking due to landslides in Saryu Valley, the repair work was started immediately under the direction of Prabhakar Singh, Executive Engineer of Latehar Road Construction Department. Executive Engineer Prabhakar Singh said that the guard walls were quite old. Due to heavy rains, a part of the road along with the guard wall also collapsed due to the strong flow of water. The department is repairing the damaged parts immediately. Soon, the department will re -assess and necessary works will be done in the valleys as required.
