TERRIES ROYALE (5.32, NAP) can reign at Pontefract today and set himself up for another productive autumn. The Mick Appleby-trained gelding won twice and finished second twice during a four week period this time last year.

On the last of those starts he came up against the progressive Tribal Chief who is now prominent in the betting for the Cambridgeshire handicap. Terries Royale had been off for 11 months when he returned in an amateurs’ race at Ascot 13 days ago, for which he started 3-1.

He got his preferred soft ground but raced far too freely, finishing a well beaten sixth. If that race has taken the fizz out of him, he could be hard to beat under Alastair Rawlinson.

ALLEGRESSE (6.12, NB) looked a smart colt when routing his opponents at Kempton last month.

Oisin Murphy made the most of the relative of St Leger winner Eldar Eldarov’s stamina by leading all the way over today’s course and distance while also recording a fast time over the 1m.

Solario Stakes sixth He’s Wallim and Godolphin’s Henry Lawson are likely to provide a more searching test of his potential but the Andrew Balding runner should be equal to it.
