Oscars 2026: Homebound selected as India’s official entry for International Feature Film

The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on March 15 2026 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Today on September 19 the Film Federation of India (FFI) announced India’s official entry for the Oscars 2026 in the International Feature Film category. From India Homebound a film produced by filmmaker Karan Johar’s production house has been selected.
Indias official entry for the 2026 Oscars was announced in Kolkata on Friday. Neeraj Ghaywan’s film Homebound has been selected for the International Feature Film category at the 2026 Academy Awards. The film received an overwhelming response at the Cannes Film Festival and also secured the second runner-up position for the International Peoples Choice Award at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
India has been submitting films to the Oscars since 1957 when Mehboob Khans Mother India became the countrys first Oscar-nominated film. Last year Kiran Raos Missing Ladies represented India though it failed to make the top 15 shortlist. The team expressed disappointment but also expressed pride in the films journey and the worldwide recognition it received.
The Academy will release its international feature film shortlist on December 16 followed by the final five nominations on January 22. The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15 2026. Nominations will be announced on January 22 2026.
Produced by Karan Johar’s production house Homebound stars Vishal Jethwa Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles. Backed by Dharma Productions the film is set to release in Indian theatres on September 26 2025.
