After integrating it into smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and workspace apps, Google is now bringing the Gemini assistant to Google TV. On Monday, the Mountain View-based tech company announced that Gemini is coming to its smart TV operating system and will be equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) features, allowing users to easily discover and search for new content. This AI chatbot will replace Google Assistant in the OS and will retain all the previous features, along with several new ones.
Google TV Gets AI Upgrade
In a blog post, the tech company announced the Gemini integration into Google TV. Currently, the AI assistant is only available on the recently launched TCL QM9K series. By the end of the year, the company plans to bring it to the Google TV Streamer, Walmart Onn. 4K Pro, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX models, and the 2025 edition TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models. This chatbot may arrive slightly late on older models.
Speaking of new features, Google says that Gemini can recommend movies, shows, and web series based on users' moods and preferred genres. It can also mix genres to suit a group's preferences. For example, if someone wants to watch dramas and someone else wants comedies, Gemini will find movies that include both genres.
The search experience is also being improved with an AI assistant. It will now understand natural language and the specific descriptions of shows and movies to provide accurate results. Maintaining its chatbot capabilities, Google TV users can also ask Gemini what happened in the previous season of a show to get a recap before starting a new season.
Google highlighted that users can also ask follow-up questions to get reviews, cast, and other information before watching a movie or show. Finally, Gemini will also be able to teach users new skills while watching TV. When a user asks the chatbot about a new recipe, skill, or DIY project, it will directly find and show related YouTube videos, so they don't have to search separately.
