Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, objected to the Bareilly lathicharge and called expressing love a fundamental right. He said that expressing love for the Prophet Muhammad is not a violation of the law. Calling the government's action unjust, he suggested dialogue with Muslim leaders and appealed for peace.
State Bureau, Lucknow. Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, has strongly objected to the lathicharge in Bareilly related to the "I Love Mohammad" incident. He said that expressing love is a fundamental right of every person.
Chanting Jai Shri Ram and Jai Bhavani by our Hindu brothers has always been a tradition; we have never objected to it. Expressing our love for Prophet Muhammad is neither a violation of the country's law nor an insult to any other religion.
Saifullah was in Lucknow on a two-day visit. Responding to a question, he said that this government action was completely unjust and against the demands of the Constitution. If the government believes that some people are acting in violation of the law, it should hold talks with Muslim leaders.
He appealed for peace and said such disputes should be resolved through mutual dialogue. Regarding the Supreme Court's interim order on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, he said that when enacting a law, it is mandatory to consider the views of its stakeholders, i.e., affected parties. The government has not made any reasonable effort to seek the views of Muslims.
