Sanchar Saathi App: The Government of India's digital security initiative, Sanchar Saathi, has achieved a significant milestone. According to the central government, over 600,000 lost and stolen mobile phones have been recovered using the platform. This success not only strengthens citizens' trust in digital governance but also demonstrates how effective technology and governance can be in combating cybercrime.
How does Sanchar Saathi work?
The "Block Your Lost/Stolen Mobile Handset" feature on Sanchar Saathi allows citizens to report, block, trace, and unblock their lost/stolen mobile phones across all Indian telecom networks.
Reported mobile phones are blocked across telecom networks nationwide to prevent misuse. As soon as a new SIM is inserted into a lost mobile phone, the system immediately generates a traceability alert. This tracing alert is sent to both the citizen and the relevant police station. The citizen is sent an SMS with complete details of the police station to contact.
One phone is recovered every minute.
The potential of this platform, built on the theme of Digital by Design, can be gauged from the fact that it is helping recover one lost mobile phone every minute. From 28,115 phones recovered in January 2025, this number reached 45,243 per month by August 2025, representing a 61% increase in just 8 months.
Real-time network of DoT, police, and telecom companies
The hallmark of 'Sanchar Saathi' is that it connects the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), and State/Union Territory police in real time. This has not only increased recovery rates but also strengthened citizens' trust. According to the government, every mobile phone recovered through this initiative represents a halt to fraud, restoration of communication, and strengthening of digital security.
What other features does the app offer?
Launched in May 2023, Sanchar Sathi has become India's most comprehensive digital security platform. It has recorded over 190 million website visits and over 9 million app downloads to date.
Other features available on the platform:
Chakshu: Report fraudulent calls or SMS

The app is available in Hindi, English, and 21 Indian languages, so citizens across the country can use it.
