Windows 10 support ends October 14: Microsoft has officially announced that Windows 10 support will end completely on October 14, 2025. After this, 1.4 billion devices worldwide will no longer receive security updates, feature upgrades, or technical support. Consequently, Windows 10 users will be vulnerable to cyber threats and will be required to upgrade to Windows 11.

When will Windows 10 end?
Windows 10 launched in July 2015 and remained the world's most widely used operating system for nearly a decade. However, after October 14, 2025, support will be completely discontinued. After this, users will receive neither security patches nor technical support, increasing the risk of cyberattacks on their devices.

Devices will work, but they will remain vulnerable.
Microsoft has clarified that Windows 10 devices will continue to function after the end of support, but the lack of security patches will make them more vulnerable to viruses, malware, and hacking. This can be an even bigger problem for companies, as systems without updates may fail regulatory compliance.

Windows 11 Upgrade and Compatibility
Users can easily check whether their system is eligible for Windows 11 by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update or using Microsoft's PC Health Check app. Microsoft claims that Windows 11 reduces security incidents by 62% and improves performance by more than twofold.

Extended Security Updates (ESU) Option
For users and organizations who find it difficult to upgrade to Windows 11 immediately, Microsoft has offered the option of ESU (Extended Security Updates). The ESU plan will be available from October 15, 2025, to October 13, 2026, and costs $61 per device for the first year. This plan is renewable for up to three years, although the price will increase annually.

Microsoft 365 and Defender Support
Microsoft 365 apps running on Windows 10 will continue to receive security updates until October 2028 and feature updates until August 2026. Microsoft Defender Antivirus will also continue to receive security intelligence updates until October 2028. This means that users who cannot migrate to Windows 11 will continue to receive partial protection.
