‘Even if you score 15 ducks, you will still…’: Abhishek Sharma credits Suryakumar Yadav for showing faith in him

New Delhi: Abhishek Sharma has been in the spotlight following his brilliant Asia Cup 2025 but there was a period when he was struggled to make an impact in Indias T20 side. The left-handed batter recently won the Player of the Tournament as he scored 314 runs and was the leading run-scorer in the eight-team competition. Abhishek made his debut last year during the series against Zimbabwe following India T20 World Cup victory. However he continued to register low scores as he was in a disappointing form. When I got selected in the Indian team I got out early in 3-4 innings in the series against Bangladesh. He told me Youre such an important player for me that even if you dont get out for 15 ducks you will still play the next game. I can give it to you in writing. I asked him Paaji are you sure? said Abhishek. It was such a big deal that the captain was saying this. He told me Get out as many times youll still play. One thing became very clear to me that if I want to do well and make a name for myself I have to do something different he added. Abhishek highlighted the importance of playing aggresive Abhishek also highlighted the importance of playing with aggression stating that that he had suppressed his instincts for a long time and only began seeing results when he adopted a more attacking free-flowing approach to the game. That was striking the ball for me. I felt that I was stopping myself from doing that because I felt the pressure of playing a long game and keeping my wicket. I completely removed that from my head said Abhishek. I thought that I was doing that for the past 4 years. I need to trust myself. Even if I lose my wicket early I will back myself throughout the season he added. Abhishek surpassed Dawid Malans record in ICC Mens T20I player rankings Following his impressive Asia Cup performance Abhishek also achieved 931 rating points breaking the record for batters in the ICC Mens T20I player rankings. Englands Dawid Malan held the record919 points previously in 2020. Abhishek scored over 30 runs in six matches during the Asia Cup 2025 while his failure came in the final match against Pakistan.
