Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sent shockwaves around the world in 2020 when they decided to quit royal life in the UK, however it turns out that not everyone saw the bombshell move as a surprise. One of these people was activist Dr Jane Goodall, who sadly passed away yesterday in Los Angeles.

The activist, who had met Harry, Meghan and their son Prince Archie before, died of natural causes while on a speaking tour. She was 91.

While it is believed she did not see much of Harry and Meghan, the activist was reportedly on friendly terms with the couple, having met them at their Frogmore Cottage home in 2019.

While the meeting was to allow Harry, 41, to interview the ethologist about the environment, responsibility and climate change for Vogue, it ended up being a family affair, with Dr Goodall meeting Prince Archie and Meghan too.

At the time, Archie was just a few weeks old, however Harry reportedly already had a big wish for his son - something Goodall revealed on a radio show in 2020.

She recalled on Radio 4's Today programme: "I know that Prince Harry really felt constrained and he desperately wants little Archie to grow up away from all the pomp and royalty, I know that."

She also said just after Harry announced his decision to quit royal life that it "doesn't surprise" her.

Since Dr Goodall's death on October 1, Harry and Meghan have released a statement praising her.

They wrote: "Dr. Jane Goodall DBE was a visionary humanitarian, scientist, friend to the planet, and friend to us.

"Her commitment to changing lives extends beyond what the world saw, and also to what we personally felt.

"She held our son, Archie, when he was first born, and showered love and care to those who were privileged to know her. She will be deeply missed."
