Friends, petrol and diesel prices are increasing every day in the country, due to which electric vehicles (EV) are becoming increasingly popular. Their biggest drawback is that they go quietly, which threatens pedestrians, elderly and visually impaired. But now these dilemma has come down and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed to make Acmary Vehicle Warning System (AVAS) mandatory in EV, let us know complete details about it

What is Avas?

Acceptive vehicle warning system is a safety feature that produces artificial sound in EV.

It helps pedestrians and others to feel the appearance of the vehicle, as EV running from electric motor otherwise calms down.

How does Avas work?

When the speed of EV decreases by 20 km/h or when she is retreating, this system automatically becomes active.

As soon as the vehicle crosses 20 km/h, this system is closed.

Implementation time-range

Step 1 (October 1, from 1 October 2026): AVAS will be mandatory in all newly launched electric vehicles.

Step 2 (from October 1, 2027): All electric vehicles already sold in the market will also have to follow this rule.

Which vehicles will have avas?

This will be mandatory for electric vehicles under M category (car and bus -like passenger vehicles) and N category (cargo vehicles like trucks).

Which vehicles are kept out of it?

This system will not be mandatory for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers and e-rickshaws.

This initiative will not only increase road safety, but will also ensure that infection towards clean transport does not compromise the safety of pedestrians.
