Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar known for his outspoken takes on social issues used a very personal incident to highlight the alarming rise of cybercrime among children. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 held at the Maharashtra State Police Headquarters in Mumbai the actor shared how his 13-year-old daughter was targeted by an unknown person during an online video game.
What exactly happened during the online game?
Recounting the incident Akshay revealed I want to tell you all a small incident which happened at my house a few months back. My daughter was playing a video game and there are some video games that you can play with someone. You are playing with an unknown stranger.
He continued While you are playing sometimes a message comes from there...Then a message came ‘Are you male or female?’ So she replied Female. And then he sent a message: ‘Can you send me nude pictures of yours?’ It was my daughter. She switched off the whole thing and she went and told my wife. This is how things begin. This is also a part of cybercrime...
His account sent ripples of shock through the audience underlining just how vulnerable children can be to digital predators.
What solution did Akshay Kumar suggest?
Acknowledging that cybercrime is becoming a greater threat than street crime Akshay made an urgent appeal to the government. He requested that cyber safety be introduced as a dedicated weekly subject in schools for classes 7th to 10th.
I would request the Chief Minister that in our Maharashtra state every week in the seventh eighth ninth and tenth standards there should be a period called cyber period where children should be explained about it the actor emphasized.

The event which marked the beginning of Cyber Awareness Month 2025 was attended by several key dignitaries. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla senior IPS officer Iqbal Singh Chahal and actress Rani Mukerji were among those present. Together they reinforced the message of strengthening awareness and safety measures to tackle growing cyber threats in India.
