Your next autumn getaway could just be this stunning coastal spot, with temperatures reaching up to 24°C, beautiful beaches and stunning snorkel spots.

Whether you're a history buff wanting to explore the medieval ruins, picturesque towns and dramatic cliffs, or you're simply looking for white sands and blue seas, this island offers a simple escape from the UK. In fact, some of Sardinia's top-rated things to do mostly include its impressive range of beaches to sit and sip away all day.

Weather

If you're looking to soak up every last drop of sunshine you can before the winter nights start rolling in, this European holiday destination is just over two hours away and offers a lot more than just warm weather.

As the second-largest island in the Mediterranean, Sardinia serves up the perfect blend of history and breathtaking landscapes. Not to mention, it remains warm throughout the later months, so you can prolong your beach days right through until the end of October.

This month welcomes in the cooler temperatures and higher chance of rainfall, but overall, travellers can expect an average of 15-24°C temperatures. These are comparable to its highs of 26°C in the summer months and lowest temperatures of around 11°C in December.

Beaches

La Pelosa, located in northwest Sardinia, is rated as the number one thing to do on TripAdvisor when visiting the island and is located in northwest Sardinia. Famed for its white sands and unbelievable blue waters, which offer views of a 16th-century tower, the beach is a must-see when visiting the island.

A TripAdvisor review claims: "The beach here is insane. The sea has the most incredible variety of blues and greens-just amazing. You can walk a long way out as the coast undulates very gently. Sure, it's full of tourists, and sure, it's full of locals too. Why, it was voted one of the top 10 in the world on some sites-it's that good."

Alternatively, on the other side of the island, an unbeatable sunbathing spot is Cala Mariolu, where cobbles meet turquoise waves. This gem is well-known for snorkelling and scuba diving, as lying below the limestone cliffs is a whole world of fish and sea life to explore.

Also making its way high up on the top of the list for sun spots is Spiaggia di Porto Giunco, proving that wherever you're staying on the island, beautiful beaches are never too far out of reach. Another review reads: "Porto Giunco is one of those beaches that make you think you have ended up in the Caribbean: clear and fine sand, transparent sea that slopes gently, pink flamingos in the pond behind the beach and the Aragonese tower that dominates the view from above. A true spectacle of nature!

Getting There

Sardinia's capital is Cagliari, located on the south coast and home to one of the island's major airports, Cagliari Elmas Airport. However, direct flights to Olbia Airport in the North East are much easier to come by when flying from UK destinations.

Brits can book direct flights to Olbia from Bristol, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, and London Luton, taking up to 2 and a half hours maximum. Meanwhile, quick flights are also regularly available to Cagliari from major London airports, including London Gatwick, London Heathrow, and London Stansted.
