Shubman Gill’s Team India will be aiming to complete a whitewash when they take on West Indies in the second and final Test match of the two-game series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi from Friday (October 10). The Indians hammered the Windies by a massive innings and 140 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad last week.
The dominant win in the opening Test means that the home side can afford to make some changes in the upcoming second Test. One of the big changes that can be made is giving rest to their bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah who is yet to play back-to-back Test matches this year.
Bumrah’s bowling partner Mohammed Siraj has recently revealed that playing the Mumbai Indians pacer in the all-important fifth and final Test against England at the Oval could have been hugely detrimental to his career. The MI speedster played the first Test in Ahmedabad after taking part in the majority of India’s title-winning campaign in the Asia Cup 2025 – where he played in all the matches barring one against Oman.
If India do decided to rest Bumrah he can be replaced by IPL 2025’s Orange Cap winner Prasidh Krishna. The Gujarat Titans pacer played a pivotal role in India’s narrow win in the Oval Test which helped Gill’s side level the five-match series at 2-2.
Devdutt Padikkal to come in place of Sai Sudharsan
In the batting department most of the Indian batters found the going quite easy against the below-part Windies attack piling up 448 for 5 declared in reply to 162. Only batter Sai Sudharsan was dismissed cheaply for 7 by Windies captain Roston Chase.
Sudharsan has been given four Tests since the tour of England to make his mark but hasn’t been able to hold down the No. 3 position in the Team India line-up. The Gujarat Titans openers was preferred ahead of Karun Nair in the West Indies series as well.
The Indian think-tank might be inclined to give an opportunity to Karnataka and RCB batter Devdutt Padikkal in the Delhi Test. Padikkal scored an impressive century in the India ‘A’ game against Australia ‘A’ last month.
