Visakhapatnam: On Monday, the Indian Navy officially commissioned the 'Androth', its second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft, during a formal ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard.
The Navy stated that the addition of Androth will significantly bolster its Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities, especially for missions in coastal and shallow water environments.
Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC), led the ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking naval officials and representatives from the shipyard.
An official statement from the ENC highlighted that the commissioning of Androth represents a significant advancement in the Navy's ongoing initiatives for indigenisation and enhancement of its capabilities.
Constructed by a company based in Kolkata, the vessel showcases India's expanding shipbuilding capabilities, with over 80% of its components sourced locally.
