Bihar Election 2025: Bihar Assembly elections 2025 have been announced and with this there is a possibility of a third front emerging between the NDA and the Grand Alliance. This initiative is being taken by All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), which is headed by party chief Asaduddin Owaisi himself. The party on Saturday announced that it is planning to contest about 100 seats in the upcoming assembly elections. This number is five times more than the seats contested by the party in the last elections. After this announcement, the challenge in the electoral game may increase for Grand Alliance leaders Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, because AIMIM’s move is likely to lead to division of minority votes.
Which is the strong stronghold of AIMIM?
Owaisi recently visited Seemanchal in the north-eastern part of Bihar, which is considered the traditional stronghold of the party. Seemanchal consists of four districts which include Katihar, Kishanganj, Araria and Purnia. This region has always been a center of attraction for political parties due to its Muslim majority population and development issues. Owaisi held several public meetings in Seemanchal and discussed the new political equation with local workers. Talking to journalists in Kishanganj, he said that I am eager to meet many colleagues in Bihar and make new friendships. The people of the state need a new option and we are trying to become that.
AIMIM’s election performance
The party participated in the Bihar Assembly elections for the first time in 2015. At that time, candidates were fielded on six seats of Seemanchal, but no victory was achieved, after which in the 2020 assembly elections, the party fielded candidates on 20 seats and won five seats of Seemanchal.
What is the opinion of experts?
Political experts say that Asaduddin Owaisi no longer wants to be limited to Seemanchal only. He is talking about alliance with many parties. Where Muslim voters are decisive, there will be a challenge for the Grand Alliance, and where the role of backward castes is important, NDA may face difficulty. The Muslim population in Bihar is about 17.7% and there are 47 assembly seats in the state where Muslim voters can play a decisive role. Most of these seats are in Seemanchal only.
Plan to field candidates on 100 seats
AIMIM State President Akhtarul Iman said that we are trying to present a third option in Bihar elections. Our plan is to field candidates on 100 seats. We had demanded some seats to the leaders of the Grand Alliance, but they did not show any interest. Now the public will give its decision on this. This time the party will emphasize on the issues of social justice and minority rights in the elections and will try to challenge both the NDA and the Grand Alliance.
