UP announces Rs 7,000 Diwali bonus for nearly 15 lakh state govt employees

Ahead of Diwali, the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat have announced bonuses for their state employees. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved a bonus for 14.82 lakh employees, while Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also declared ad hoc bonuses for government staff in their respective states.

The Uttar Pradesh government will spend ₹1,022 crore to give bonuses to 14.82 lakh state employees before Diwali. According to the Chief Minister’s office, each employee will receive a bonus of up to ₹6,908, calculated on 30 days’ emoluments. The decision aims to provide financial relief to government workers ahead of the festive season. The announcement was made by the Chief Minister after a review meeting with senior officials in Lucknow.

The bonus will cover full-time non-gazetted employees up to Pay Matrix Level 8 (Rs 47,600-Rs 1,51,100) with grade pay up to Rs 4,800. It includes employees of state departments, state-aided educational and technical institutions, local bodies, district panchayats, and also in-charge and daily wage employees of government departments, the official statement said.

Rajasthan announces ad hoc bonus for 6 lakh employees

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also declared an ad hoc bonus for around six lakh state government employees on Tuesday.


In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, "Special Gift for State Government Employees on the Occasion of Diwali! Our government, dedicated to good governance, has announced the provision of an ad hoc bonus for approximately 6 lakh employees on the auspicious occasion of Diwali."

He added, "This bonus will be given to those state government employees who are working at pay level L-12 or grade pay ₹4800 and below on the salary scales. Each eligible employee will receive a maximum ad hoc bonus of ₹6774. The benefit of this decision will also extend to employees of Panchayat Samiti and District Council."

The announcement covers employees up to pay level L-12 or those with a grade pay of ₹4,800 or less.

Gujarat extends ₹7,000 ad hoc bonus to Class-4 staff

Earlier, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had announced an ad hoc bonus of up to ₹7,000 for Class-4 employees. The benefit will be given to 16,921 employees across various departments.

According to a release from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, the eligible beneficiaries include staff working in state cabinet departments, the Legislative Assembly Speaker’s office, the Whip, Deputy Whip, and Deputy Chief Whip offices. It will also cover employees in panchayats, grant-in-aid schools and colleges, and state government boards and corporations that do not provide bonuses through their own mechanisms.
