In a major leap for digital payments in India, Muse Wearables has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to launch the country’s first wearable payment ecosystem. Dubbed Muse Ring One, this innovative system allows users to make secure UPI payments directly from a smart ring, eliminating the need for phones, wallets, or physical cards.
The Muse Ring One transforms your traditional Rupee debit or credit card into a secure digital token, which is stored inside a tamper-resistant Secure Element chip embedded in the ring. This hardware-level security is the same as used in bank cards and passports, ensuring sensitive card data remains completely isolated from phone operating systems or apps.
To use the ring, users simply tap it on any NFC-enabled POS terminal to complete transactions instantly. Payments are processed via the Muse Wallet and NPCI’s RuPay network, making it a fully integrated Indian solution. Currently, the system supports over 600 bank cards across 40 countries, and Muse is actively onboarding all major banks in India to expand compatibility.
The user adds their RuPay card to the Muse Wallet app.
The app communicates with the RuPay network and the user’s bank to generate a unique digital token.
The token is encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element chip within the Muse Ring One.
When the ring is tapped on an NFC-enabled POS terminal, the Secure Element executes the transaction without exposing the actual card number.
Importantly, the ring only works when worn on the finger. If the ring is removed, lost, or stolen, the token becomes inactive without user authentication, adding an extra layer of safety.
Hardware-level security ensures card information never leaves the ring.
No dependence on mobile phones or apps at the point of payment.
Instant transactions via NFC technology.
Global adoption with millions of users across 40 countries.
Future-ready: All Indian banks to be supported soon.
This approach sets a new standard for wearable payments in India, combining convenience, safety, and speed.
Muse Co-founder and CEO K.L.N. Sai Prasant highlighted the innovation:
“We are competing with global tech giants by creating a sovereign digital wallet for India. Within the next two years, millions of RuPay cardholders will enjoy wearable payment convenience.”
Global Business Vice President Sahil Ajay Chaudhary added:
“Muse Ring One payments have received excellent responses worldwide. Our system is live in 40 countries and works with over 600 banks through the Mastercard network.”
With digital payments becoming increasingly common, wearable solutions like Muse Ring One promise to make transactions faster, safer, and more convenient. By integrating card tokenization and Secure Element technology, this innovation eliminates common security risks associated with mobile wallets and contactless card payments.
As India moves towards a cashless and secure economy, the launch of Muse Ring One could pave the way for future-ready wearable payment devices, making UPI payments as simple as tapping a ring on a terminal.
