This festive season, the Indian market is experiencing a distinct buzz following the GST reduction. Several vehicles are set to launch in the Indian market soon. One of these is the Toyota Mini Fortuner, which is expected to launch in the Indian auto market soon. This vehicle is also being called the Baby Land Cruiser and Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The Toyota Mini Fortuner could directly compete with vehicles like the Mahindra Thar, Rock and Scorpio N in the Indian market. Let's take a look at its pricing and launch details. 

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to be priced between ₹20 lakh and ₹27 lakh (ex-showroom) in India, placing it squarely against the likes of the Mahindra Scorpio-N, Tata Safari, Jeep Compass, and Mahindra Thar RWD or Rocks. It will be a strong option in the segment for customers seeking Fortuner-like style and off-roading capabilities on a budget. Prices for the Toyota Fortuner start at ₹33.64 lakh (ex-showroom, India). 

According to media reports, production of the Toyota FJ Cruiser is expected to begin in Thailand by the end of 2026, and its India launch could take place by mid-2027 (likely June 2027). It will be manufactured at a Make-in-India plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, which will keep costs under control and offer it at a competitive pricing.

Design-wise, the FJ Cruiser will have a rugged and boxy look, as confirmed by a teaser image released in 2023. The SUV will feature modern LED headlamps and DRLs, high ground clearance, chunky tires, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, giving it a classic and rugged SUV look. Additionally, its 4WD system makes it capable of driving on difficult terrain.

In terms of performance, the Indian version of the FJ Cruiser is expected to be powered by a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 161 bhp and 246 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox and will come with a full-time 4WD system. Furthermore, for international markets, Toyota may also include a hybrid powertrain option, which will offer better fuel efficiency and an environmentally friendly driving experience.
