The Bureau of Indian Standards launched the BIS Care App to combat the problem of fake gold. Using this app, you can easily check the hallmarked jewelry on your mobile.

As Dhanteras and Diwali approach, people begin shopping for gold and silver. Markets become crowded, and gold and silver prices rise rapidly. With these rising prices, the risk of counterfeit and adulterated gold also increases. A shocking incident recently emerged from the Basti district, Uttar Pradesh.

The owner of a shop called Radha Jewellers in Basti district sold fake gold to hundreds of villagers at the price of real gold. The accused sold fake gold worth over ₹2 crore and then closed his shop and fled. This incident has now instilled fear in the market regarding fake gold. So, let us tell you which mobile app you should download on your phone if you're planning to buy gold during Diwali.

Download this app on your phone before buying gold

The Bureau of Indian Standards launched the BIS Care App to combat the problem of counterfeit gold. Through this app, customers can easily check the authenticity of any hallmarked jewelry on their mobile phones. If you're planning to buy jewelry during Diwali, you should first check the HUID number on the hallmarked jewelry. The HUID is a six-digit alphanumeric code. By entering this HUID into the BIS Care App, you'll learn which hallmarking center certified the jewelry, the metal it's made of, and its purity.

If the information provided in the app doesn't match your jewelry, it could be counterfeit. The Bureau of Indian Standards recommends purchasing only hallmarked gold, as hallmarking ensures that the gold meets Bureau of Indian Standards standards and guarantees buyers the purity of their purchases.

You can also lodge a complaint through the app.

The BIS Care App is not only a means of checking the purity of gold, but it also allows the public to lodge a complaint directly. If the HUID number in the app does not match the jewelry, or if the shopkeeper is selling unhallmarked gold, the customer can report it to the Bureau of Indian Standards and request an inspection.

Keep these things in mind when buying gold.

Always check the BIS hallmark and the 6-digit HUID number on the jewelry.
Check the HUID by entering it into the BIS Care App on your mobile.

If the jewelry does not have a HUID or does not match the app, do not buy that jewelry.
