Meta New Features:In view of the increasing cases of online fraud, Meta has taken a big step. Now chatting on all meta platforms including WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook has become even more secure. The company has launched many new security features and tools especially to protect senior citizens from cyber crimes. Their objective is to protect users from scams and make them digitally aware.

It has become common for scammers to target senior citizens for some time now. Cases of fraud through video calling, screen sharing and fake messages have increased rapidly. In such a situation, these new features of Meta had become the need of the hour.

Security alert will be received during screen sharing on WhatsApp

Meta has added a new alert system to WhatsApp. Now if a user shares the screen during a video call with an unknown person, he will immediately see a warning. This feature will be especially effective in cases where scammers cheat people of money through digital arrest or intimidating methods.

AI-powered scam detection tool will come in Messenger

Messenger users will soon get a new AI based scam detection tool. This tool will be able to scan the chat with a new contact. If any suspicious activity or possibility of fraud is detected in the chat, the user will get a real-time alert about it and will be advised to take necessary action.

Passkey login support will be available on all platforms

Meta has started Passkey login support on all its platforms – Facebook, WhatsApp and Messenger. This means that users will now be able to login through secure and device-based authentication methods like face verification or fingerprint instead of password. This will provide better protection to accounts from hacking and phishing.

Appeal to users to use security tools

Meta has appealed to all users to use Security Checkup tools on Facebook and Instagram and Privacy Checkup tools on WhatsApp. These tools help you test and strengthen the security of your account.

Meta has also announced that it will run the ‘Scam Se Bacho’ campaign in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India. Under this campaign, especially senior citizens will be taught ways to identify and prevent scams through video content and sessions.

Along with this, Meta will also support the ‘Saksham Senior’ campaign, in which special training to digital literacy and cyber safety will be provided, so that senior citizens can register their presence safely on the Internet. This step of Meta is considered important towards creating a safe environment in the digital world. These new features and initiatives will play an effective role in protecting us from cyber criminals who especially target senior citizens.
