Renowned playback singer Humaira Arshad has expressed her dissatisfaction with actor-singer Fawad Khan’s involvement as a judge on Pakistan Idol Season 2. In a recent appearance on Suno News’s program, she voiced strong objections, stating that individuals with no direct connection to music should not be placed on such judging panels.
According to Humaira, this practice has been prevalent in Pakistan for years, where celebrities without any formal music background are often included as judges. She emphasized that judges, particularly those with no expertise in music, should consider whether they are in a position to assess new talent accurately. If they are aware of their lack of musical knowledge, she argued, they should politely decline participation in such programs.
Humaira suggested that professional musicians, who have dedicated their lives to music, should be the ones entrusted with the responsibility of judging, instead of celebrities who are only famous for their acting or other non-musical talents. She pointed out that the inclusion of such celebrities often comes at the behest of sponsors or the desire to feature popular names, rather than focusing on the credibility of the judges.
Further, Humaira added that celebrities, like Fawad Khan, should participate as part of the show’s broader appeal but should not be in a position to judge the participants’ singing abilities. She believes that genuine music experts, who have spent years mastering their craft, should be the ones to evaluate aspiring artists on these platforms.
Fawad Khan, though not primarily known for his music career, gained significant fame through his rock band EP (Entity Paradigm) before moving on to acting, where he achieved considerable success. Currently, he serves as one of the judges on Pakistan Idol Season 2, alongside celebrated names like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Bilal Maqsood, and Zeib Bangash.
