In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood where we often see the dazzling and picture-perfect life of celebrities in the forefront there is a lot of hard work tight schedules and restless shoots with long working hours that never take the spotlight. However recently many celebrities have opened up about this issue and now actor Rashmika Mandanna has also shared her opinion on the same. Rashmika who has been in the news for the last few weeks first for her engagement to Vijay Deverakonda and later for the release of her recent film Thamm shared her opinion on the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life
The 8-Hour Work Shift Debate
Recently Deepika Padukone was in the news after she requested an 8-hour work shift. Soon this debate turned into a controversy sparking conversations on social media about whether actors should have fixed work hours like other professions.
Amid this ongoing discussion producer Sreenivasa Kumar who is the producer of The Girlfriend (Rashmikas upcoming project) came forward to praise Rashmika’s work ethic saying that she never imposed any work-hour restrictions. However Rashmika had an honest reaction on this. She said I think glorifying the fact that we overwork is not good. I overwork and I’m telling you it’s highly not suggestible. Don’t do it. It’s not sustainable. Don’t do it. Do what is comfortable for you; do what is right for you. Get those 8 hours; get those 9-10 hours also because trust me that’s going to save you in the later ages.”
She further added “As in I have seen a lot of these conversations recently where people are like ‘Okay you know work timing’ and all of that. I’ve done it both ways. And I’m telling you this is not worth it.”
When director Rahul Ravindran remarked “It’s almost every day in cinema” Rashmika agreed and elaborated “Yeah that’s almost every day in cinema. And that’s the love and respect I have for my teams. But if I could choose for myself I would say “Please don’t make us actors do that because there’s a lot that’s going on.”
Rashmika further added how long working hours are not only good for the actors but also for the entire team. “Not even actors. Directors lightmen music everyone just have like you know how office time is 9 to 6 or 9 to 5 or 9 to 4 let us have that. Because there’s still a family life that I want to focus on there’s still my sleep that I want to get in I still want to work out so you know later on I’m not regretting that I wish I was you know healthy and fit and working out when I was younger.”
Rashmika on the Importance of Health
Rashmika further shared how she often overcommits because of responsibility and empathy for her team. “I’m still thinking about my future. But right now I don’t have a say because I’m taking on too much on myself.”
Rashmikas grounded take
Rashmikas take on this matter adds to the industry’s growing conversation about sustainable working conditions showing that even the industry that looks picture perfect from the outside has its own set of struggles and challenges and hence they deserve rest.
