With their World Series title defense hanging by a thread, the Los Angeles Dodgers are leaving no option unexplored - including the possibility of using Shohei Ohtani as a relief pitcher in Game 6 on Friday night. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed on Thursday that 'everything is on the table' as the team faces elimination against the Toronto Blue Jays, who lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 with back-to-back wins in Los Angeles. Blue Jays are now just one victory away from their first World Series title since 1993.

Speaking after the team’s workout in Toronto, Roberts said the decision will depend on how Ohtani feels on Friday. "When you’re facing elimination, you’ve got to have those conversations," he noted. "Whatever it takes for us to win tomorrow."

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who threw a complete-game gem in Game 2, will start for the Dodgers in Game 6. Ohtani, who took the loss in Game 4, expressed willingness to pitch out of the bullpen if needed. After missing the 2024 season while recovering from elbow ligament surgery, Ohtani has been outstanding as a starter this year, with the Dodgers carefully managing his return by spacing out his outings.

However, using him in relief poses strategic challenges. Under MLB rules, if Ohtani enters as both pitcher and designated hitter, the Dodgers would lose the DH spot once he’s replaced on the mound - a potential blow to their lineup. Roberts acknowledged the trade-off but emphasized that all options remain open heading into a must-win game.

Despite the pressure, the Dodgers are maintaining a positive mindset. "Our guys are in good spirits," Roberts said. "What better way to win the World Series than in Game 7?" He added that none of his players opted to skip Thursday’s workout despite fatigue from travel and long games - a sign that the defending champions are ready to fight to the finish.
