Metro services were affected due to a sudden signal failure on the Red Line of Delhi Metro on Friday morning. The problem occurred during peak hours, causing long waits for passengers at stations and making the frequency of many trains unusually slow. According to the information, after the service was disrupted in the morning, operations were affected for about one and a half hours. The technical team of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) repaired the signal system and the services were declared normal again at 9:40 am. Passengers said that due to this they had to face delay in reaching offices, schools and other places. Due to increase in crowd at some stations, security personnel had to make additional arrangements.
How did the interruption occur?
According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), a technical glitch occurred in the signal system between Pitampura and Welcome station at around 8:15 am. Due to this, the communication of metro trains with the main control room was disrupted and the speed of trains was slowed down as per safety protocol.
People shared their problems on social media
Complaints from passengers continued to surface on social media after metro services on the Red Line slowed down due to signal failure. Metro delays during peak hours led to huge crowd gathering at many stations, due to which the gates of some stations were temporarily closed due to security reasons.
A passenger named Kunal Tandon, who was waiting for the metro at Rohini West station, posted on Twitter: “It’s been more than half an hour at Rohini West, metro is not coming. There is no space to even set foot at the station.” Similarly, another passenger named Raj Srivastava wrote, “The gates of Major Mohit Sharma Metro station have been closed. Metro employees are saying that the service is affected and are not able to tell by when it will be normal. For now, use other means of transport.” According to the passengers, due to the platforms being overcrowded at many stations, people also faced problems in boarding and deboarding. Some passengers also complained about being late to the office due to the delay.
Another passenger said on social media that the gates of Shahdara metro station were also closed to control the crowd. He said CISF and Metro staff were deployed to handle the situation at the station premises. Apart from this, on the Passenger Information Display Board (PID) installed at the stations located towards Ghaziabad, the waiting time for trains going in the direction of Rithala was being shown increasing from 61 minutes to 69 minutes, seeing which the passengers appeared more upset.
