US Vice President JD Vance turned heads this Halloween as he completely leaned into internet culture for the spooky holiday. Vance transformed into just one of many meme-ified versions of himself that have been shared online for years. He took the internet by storm by dressing up as his own viral meme and also extended Halloween greetings.

The 41-year-old Republican was seen donning a dense brown curly wig which he paired with a red tie and blue blazer in a clear imitation of the bloated, dunce version of himself popularly used by internet trolls. “Happy Halloween. And remember to say thank you!” Vance said in an Instagram video that ended with him eerily spinning in a circle as the “Twilight Zone” theme plays.

The veep also shared an up-close and personal selfie in costume to X, making sure to widen his eyes to appear like the photoshopped version of himself in the meme. “MAKE SURE YOU SAY THANK YOU,” the White House wrote, sharing the image on its own account.

The “thank you” comments reference the chaotic and controversial February Oval Office meeting Vance and President Trump held with the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Vance chastized Zelensky for not being grateful enough for US assistance in its war with Russia.

“The fact that people started making memes of JD Vance like this and he basically just shrugged his shoulders and said, ‘Screw it! Let’s roll with it,’ is one of the funniest things to happen in politics over the last decade,” one man wrote on X.

“Amazing. Great reminder that in politics, and in life, joining in on the joke is almost always the winning move,” said Gates McGavick of the Republican National Committee.

Many X users couldn’t believe Vance recreated his own meme. One wrote, “JD Vance is totally dressing up as his own meme for Halloween. Legend.” Another joked, “Babe look, JD Vance dressed up as his meme for Halloween!” The third user said, “JD Vance is doing the meme!! What a time to be alive!”

White House Halloween post

The fun moment came just days after the White House shared playful Halloween edits of former President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, all frequent targets of political memes.

Vance’s “costume” also poked fun at his February exchange with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which he had bluntly urged Zelensky to thank President Donald Trump for US support. The Vice President’s light-hearted costume came just as he faced backlash for his recent remarks about his wife’s Hindu faith.

On Friday, Vance defended the comments he made about his wife Usha, during a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi.

“She is not a Christian and has no plans to convert,” Vance wrote on X. “But like many people in an interfaith marriage, I hope she may one day see things as I do.”

Critics accused him of being dismissive of his wife’s faith after he told the audience he hoped she might “one day come to Christ.” But Vance pushed back hard, calling the outrage “disgusting” and rooted in “anti-Christian bigotry.”
