If you’re planning to visit your bank this week, make sure to check the holiday schedule first. Most bank branches across the country will remain closed on Wednesday, November 5, due to Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima celebrations. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has listed this date as a bank holiday in several states. However, customers can continue using online banking, UPI, and ATM services as usual.
As per the RBI’s official list of holidays for November 2025, most public sector, private, and rural banks will not open on Wednesday. The day marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru, celebrated as Guru Nanak Jayanti or Gurpurab. The festival holds immense religious and cultural significance, particularly in northern states such as Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.
At the same time, the festival of Kartik Purnima—considered an auspicious day in Hindu tradition—will also be celebrated in several parts of the country. This convergence of two major religious events has prompted the RBI to declare a midweek nationwide bank holiday in most regions.
Here’s a detailed look at the upcoming bank holidays in November 2025, as per the RBI’s state-wise schedule:
November 1 (Saturday): Kannada Rajyotsava / Igas-Bagwal
Banks in Karnataka will remain closed for Kannada Rajyotsava, the state’s foundation day. Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, banks will be shut for Igas-Bagwal, often referred to as the “Diwali of the Gods.”
November 5 (Wednesday): Guru Nanak Jayanti / Kartik Purnima
Banks will remain closed in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and several other states.
November 7 (Friday): Wangala Festival (Meghalaya)
In Meghalaya, banks will observe a holiday for the Wangala Festival, a post-harvest celebration of the Garo tribe.
November 8 (Saturday): Kanakadasa Jayanti (Karnataka)
Being the second Saturday of the month, banks across the country will remain closed. Additionally, Karnataka will observe Kanakadasa Jayanti, commemorating the revered poet-saint Kanakadasa.
November 11 (Tuesday): Lhabab Duchen (Sikkim)
Banks in Sikkim will be closed on account of Lhabab Duchen, an important Buddhist festival celebrating Lord Buddha’s descent from heaven.
Apart from these specific holidays, banks will remain closed on Sundays and the designated second and fourth Saturdays of the month. The weekly offs in November 2025 will fall on the following dates:
Sundays: 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 November
Second Saturday: 8 November
Fourth Saturday: 22 November
Despite physical branches being closed, customers can still carry out most transactions through digital channels. Services such as ATM withdrawals, net banking, mobile banking, and UPI payments will remain unaffected. This ensures that essential financial operations like fund transfers, bill payments, and balance checks can continue seamlessly.
If you have important banking tasks—like submitting documents, updating KYC, or visiting a branch for financial assistance—it’s advisable to plan ahead and avoid the holiday dates. Customers should check the RBI’s official holiday calendar or their bank’s website for region-specific updates, as holiday dates may vary slightly by state.
While November brings multiple holidays for bank employees and devotees alike, it’s essential for customers to stay informed to avoid last-minute inconvenience. With festivals like Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima falling midweek, most banks across India will remain closed on November 5, 2025.
However, digital and ATM banking services will remain fully operational, allowing users to manage their financial activities without disruption.
