Malaysian police received a report on the afternoon of Oct. 30 about an unconscious Taiwanese woman found in a hotel room, according to Hong Kong news outlet HK01. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered her lying in a bathtub, wrapped in a white towel, with no signs of life. Police found nine blue pills nearby, which are suspected to be drugs and sexual stimulants.

A preliminary investigation showed no visible injuries on the body, and the cause of death of Iris Hsieh is unknown. Her body has been sent to Kuala Lumpur General Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible sudden death pending forensic results.

Malaysian singer Namewee, 42, was at the scene when the incident occurred, HK01 said. He told the police that he had sexual intercourse with Iris Hsieh earlier that day. Hsieh later went to the bathroom but he did not hear any sound of running water. When he checked, she was unconscious in the bathtub, and he performed CPR.

Police arrested Namewee for drug possession and abuse under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. He was later released on bail.

Investigators suspect that Namewee and Hsieh had used drugs and engaged in sexual activity before her death. The case is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 8.

On Nov. 2, Namewee published a post on Instagram denying allegations of drug use and possession, The Strait Times newspaper said. He said he stayed silent while the case was under investigation and called media reports false.

Hsieh worked as a nurse in Taiwan before switching to modeling, video creation, streaming, and running a YouTube channel. She was nicknamed “nursing department goddess” online after her figure and appearance. On social media, where she had over one million followers, she often posted revealing photos.

Namewee, born Wee Meng Chee in 1983 in Johor, Malaysia, is a singer, rapper, songwriter, and director. He is known for mixing hip-hop, pop, and folk music with social commentary. He gained popularity in 2007 with the song Negarakuku and later achieved success with Stranger in the North, a collaboration with singer Wang Leehom. His work often reflects personal views and has sometimes sparked political and cultural controversy.
