BJP's Confidence in Ghatsila By-Election

In Ghatsila, Odisha's Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed strong belief that the BJP will secure victory in the upcoming by-election. He emphasized that the election results will mirror the public's desire for change.

Speaking at a rally in Dampara for BJP candidate Babulal Soren, CM Majhi pointed out that the citizens of Jharkhand are disillusioned with the current government just a year after the assembly elections, indicating a demand for a shift in leadership.

He remarked, "This reflects the inadequate performance of the existing government. A BJP win in the Ghatsila bypoll will demonstrate the people's wish for transformation."

Majhi, who communicated primarily in Santhali, criticized the Hemant Soren administration for neglecting the implementation of the Panchayat Extension to the Scheduled Areas Act (PESA), which is designed to empower tribal communities in designated regions.

He stated, "While the government claims to support tribal interests, it has failed to enforce PESA despite being in power for over six years. This has denied tribes their rights and villagers the constitutional benefits they deserve."

Reiterating the BJP's commitment to tribal welfare, Majhi praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for appointing tribal leaders as CMs in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, as well as a tribal president for the nation.

He added, "The BJP is synonymous with progress," highlighting ongoing plans in Odisha to auction 22 mines and the initiation of several factory projects.

Majhi expressed hope for similar advancements in Jharkhand under BJP governance, noting the cultural and heritage ties between Odisha and Jharkhand, particularly among the Santhal community.

In contrast, JMM leader Kalpana Soren held a public gathering at Anchlik Maidan in Galudih to support her party's candidate, Somesh Chandra Soren, for the Ghatsila seat.

Gandey MLA Soren criticized other political parties for not prioritizing the empowerment of women and tribal communities, unlike her husband, CM Hemant Soren's administration.

She also condemned the central government's handling of inflation and mentioned the state government's initiative to provide free electricity for up to 200 units to alleviate some financial burden on residents.

Soren urged voters to support her party's candidate to reinforce the JMM-led government in Jharkhand.

A total of 13 candidates are contesting in the by-election, scheduled for November 11, which was called due to the passing of Education Minister Ramdas Soren in August. The counting of votes will occur on November 12.
