Sadhguru explains that, traditionally water was stored in a metal vessel, such as one made of brass, copper or mixed metal. In his blog post, he told that earlier people used to wash copper utensils at night with a little tamarind and turmeric. They used to apply sacred ash on it, then fill it with water and place a flower on it. Used to light a lamp near it and go to sleep. That water was drunk the next morning. Apart from this, experts believe that keeping water in an earthen vessel in summer is good for health. This keeps the water cool and also gives relief to the stomach.
Sadhguru says that water should be consumed with respect and reverence. According to Sadhguru, in the yogic tradition, if you are on the path of change within yourself and want to take your body to a new level, then you should drink water whose temperature is only a maximum of four degrees less or more than your body temperature. As normal body temperature is around 37 degrees Celsius, hence you should drink water between 33 to 41 degrees. If you are a student, you can drink water up to 8 degrees, women taking care of the house should drink water up to 12 degrees.
Sadhguru tells that one should never quench one’s thirst. Therefore, whenever you feel thirsty, drink ten percent more water than your requirement. That is, overall, Sadhguru tells that whenever you feel thirsty, you should not ignore it and drink water within 20 minutes or maximum 30 minutes.
Apart from drinking water, you should consume such things which have high water content. If you are eating fruits then eat such fruits which contain 90 percent water. Eat vegetables that contain 70 percent water. That means your food must have at least 70 percent water content. Along with keeping your body hydrated, it will help in improving digestion, absorbing nutrients and maintaining cellular function. Water-rich foods like cucumber, watermelon, orange and green leafy vegetables help regulate temperature, flush out toxins and increase energy.
