Malaysian rapper Namewee has been detained in Kuala Lumpur for questioning over the death of Taiwanese model and influencer Iris Hsieh, who was found dead in a hotel room late last month.
The 42-year-old musician, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, appeared at a police station in the Malaysian capital early on Nov. 5 after traveling from Johor Bahru, according to The Straits Times.
“I will fully assist the police in their investigations, and be accountable to the public and the family of the deceased,” he wrote in Chinese on Instagram on Nov. 5. “I will not run. When I was wanted seven times in the past, I turned up on my own each time, never running away.”

31-year-old Hsieh was found dead in a bathtub in a Kuala Lumpur hotel on Oct .22. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered her lying in a bathtub, wrapped in a white towel, with no signs of life. Police found nine blue pills nearby, which are suspected to be drugs and sexual stimulants.

Namewee was at the scene when the incident occurred, HK01 said. He told the police that he had sexual intercourse with Iris Hsieh earlier that day. Hsieh later went to the bathroom but he did not hear any sound of running water. When he checked, she was unconscious in the bathtub.
Investigators suspect that Namewee and Hsieh had used drugs and engaged in sexual activity before her death.
