  • The processing of pending ITR will stop.

Salary and investment will be affected

After PAN is deactivated, there will be no direct impact on your existing bank account or investments, but future financial transactions will come to a halt.

    • There may be difficulty in getting your salary into the bank.
    • Will not be able to do new SIP, FD or share trading.
    • Banks and mutual fund companies will not be able to update KYC.
    • New investments or loan processes may stop. That means your old one. The money will remain safe, but new financial work will stop.

 

 

Who is required to link PAN-Aadhaar?

According to the Finance Ministry’s notification dated April 3, 2025, people who have been issued PAN card before October 1, 2024, will have to link PAN-Aadhaar by December 31, 2025. This rule is also applicable to those who have made PAN through Aadhaar Enrollment ID. Some categories have been exempted like senior citizens above 80 years of age, NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) and residents of Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir.

How to link PAN to Aadhaar online?

You can link your PAN with Aadhaar very easily on the Income Tax Department website. Just follow these steps for this.

  • Open www.incometax.gov.in website
  • Click on “Link Aadhaar” option.
  • Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number and mobile number.
  • Verify with OTP received on mobile.
  • If your PAN is already inactive, a fine of ₹1,000 will have to be paid.
  • After linking, check the status by going to “Quick Links → Link Aadhaar Status”.

Keep these things in mind

Name, date of birth and mobile number should be same on PAN and Aadhaar. Save the screenshot or receipt after linking. The server on the website may slow down or crash near the last date, so it is better to link in time.

Why is PAN-Aadhaar linking important?

The government has made PAN-Aadhaar linking mandatory so that tax evasion and fake PAN cards can be prevented. Also, the identity of every taxpayer can be linked to a unique ID. This will make financial transparency and digital monitoring easier.
