T20 World Cup 2026: The T20 match played between India and Australia in Brisbane on Saturday was canceled due to rain. India won the 5 T20 match series 2-1 due to the match being cancelled. In the presentation held after the match, Australian captain Mitchell Marsh made an important statement regarding captaincy in the T20 World Cup 2026.

I think I will be the captain – Mitchell Marsh

During the presentation, Mitchell Marsh was asked who will captain Australia in the T20 World Cup 2026 and whether Pat Cummins is also a contender for the captaincy. Answering this question, Marsh said that I think, I will be the captain.

Actually, Australia played the T20 World Cup 2024 held in America and West Indies under the captaincy of Mitchell Marsh. Australia had to face defeat from Afghanistan. The team could not reach the semi-finals. After the defeat in the home T20 series against India, questions are being raised on Marsh’s captaincy. However, with his answer, he showed confidence that he will lead Australia in the next T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka.

World Test Championship title was won under the captaincy of Pat Cummins

Under his captaincy, Pat Cummins led Australia to the ICC World Test Championship and ODI World Cup titles in 2023. Australia had defeated India on both the occasions. After this, not giving Cummins the captaincy of Australia in the T20 World Cup was a surprising decision taken by the selectors of Cricket Australia. It remains to be seen whether Cummins becomes a part of the next T20 World Cup as a player or not.

Despite the defeat in the T20 series against India, Mitchell Marsh has performed well for Australia as captain and batsman. If we look at Marsh’s T20 career, this 34-year-old player has scored 2,083 runs in 81 T20 matches, scoring 1 century and 11 half-centuries. Has also taken 17 wickets. Because of playing IPL, Marsh has better experience of Indian pitches which can be useful for him and Australia in the T20 World Cup.
