New Delhi: Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone is no longer just a rumor, but looks like a big technological step. According to the latest reports, this phone will not only be able to bend, but it will also see a major change in camera technology. A recent equity research report from JP Morgan, seen by MacRumors, claims that Apple may offer a 24-megapixel under-display camera in its first foldable iPhone. That means the camera will be hidden inside the screen and will not be visible from outside. This could be the first smartphone in the industry which will work under the display with high quality.
Till now, under-display camera technology has been tried in series like Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and ZTE Axon, but most of those cameras have not been that effective. The main reason for this was said to be that less light reaches below the layers of the screen, due to which the pictures appear blurry and less clear.
The report claims that Apple has solved this technical challenge. The company will use a 24-megapixel sensor and six plastic lens elements, which will be much better than the 4MP or 8MP under-display cameras so far. This means that now the quality of selfies can be as clear and sharp as a traditional camera.
However, due to this new design, Apple may have to give up some features. According to the report, the company may try to keep the phone thin and light by removing features like LiDAR scanner and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). This may disappoint some photography lovers, but what we get in return is a beautiful, all-screen foldable iPhone.
According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device will have two 48-megapixel cameras on the back and two cameras on the front – one for the outer screen and the other hidden under the inner screen. That means a total of four cameras. This information also matches with the reports of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
At the same time, another big change can be seen in biometric security. According to reports, instead of Face ID in the foldable iPhone, Touch ID sensor can be given in the side button. This will make it easier to unlock the device in any direction and the design of the phone will also be more compact.
Overall, if these reports turn out to be true, this foldable iPhone could prove to be the biggest and boldest innovation in Apple’s history so far.
