The education authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have commenced an investigation following the emergence of a video on social media that depicted students from a government school in Doda performing an “inappropriate song” during their morning assembly.
The footage captured students at the Government Middle School Sichal singing lyrics that included: “Pukarti Ma Bharti, khoon se tilak karo, goliyon se aarti (Mother India calls, mark your forehead with blood and use bullets for worship).”
A teacher was visible in the background of the assembly, discussing a recent classification of students based on their results. The teacher was heard stating, “You can see the scenes, the children have come to school, and the morning assembly is in progress… Jai Hind, Jai Bharat!”
An activist named Raja Shakeel filed a complaint with the chief education officer in Doda, claiming that the students were being subjected to “extremist and violent” teachings.
Doda's Chief Education Officer, Iqbal Hussain, confirmed that an inquiry was initiated due to the viral video showing students reciting a prayer considered unsuitable for minors. The complainant expressed concerns regarding the potential psychological effects of such content on children.
“Given the seriousness of the situation, an inquiry committee has been formed to conduct a comprehensive investigation and provide a factual report to this office within two days, along with specific comments and recommendations,” the inquiry order stated.
The education officer also mentioned that the teacher's salary has been suspended, and further actions will be determined after the inquiry report is submitted.
