Vijay Varma Discusses His Mental Health Struggles

Actor Vijay Varma has candidly shared his experiences with depression, revealing that he faced significant mental health challenges. During a recent podcast with Rhea Chakraborty, he opened up about his struggles with anxiety and depression, recounting how he isolated himself in his room during this difficult period.

He acknowledged the crucial support he received from Ira Khan, the daughter of Aamir Khan, and Gulshan Devaiah, who helped him navigate through his dark times. Following Ira's advice, he turned to yoga and therapy to cope with his mental health issues.

Isolation and Loneliness: Vijay Varma's Experience

While speaking to Rhea, Vijay described his life in Mumbai, where he lived alone in a small apartment. He mentioned that he could only see the sky from his tiny balcony, and without it, he felt he might lose his sanity. He expressed how the relentless pursuit of work can lead to profound loneliness, leaving one without friends or companions.

Vijay further elaborated on how he became increasingly withdrawn, fearing to leave his home and spending entire days on his couch without moving. He credited Ira Khan for being part of his small support system during this time, as they became friends while working together on the project 'Dahaad.' They maintained their connection through video calls and shared meals, which helped him feel less isolated.

Ira Khan's Encouragement and Support

Vijay revealed that his condition was deteriorating, and it was Ira who first suggested he start moving again. She would work out via Zoom and encouraged him to join her. Eventually, he spoke with a therapist online, which led to the realization that he was battling depression and anxiety. His therapist even recommended medication, but Vijay opted to try managing his condition on his own initially.

He also shared that he practiced Surya Namaskar and engaged in yoga, alongside therapy, to improve his mental health.
