A man was left suffering for hours after trying a new eating challenge and having to give up just minutes in. A foodie says his stomach “gave up” after he tried to conquer a 10,000-calorie roast potato challenge.

Jonny Adams was the first to have a go at tackling 4.5kg of roasties smothered in a pint of gravy. The 42-year-old had to give up after six minutes and was suffering for three hours despite bringing his own mint sauce to help.

He took on the challenge at Spuds in Wakefield, West Yorks, on Wednesday. “Before I started, I was very confident but when they were brought out I lost the confidence,” said Jonny, from Droylsden, Greater Manchester.

“It was a heck of a lot of roast potatoes and they were heavy. It was frightening. I got about a quarter of the way through but it was so heavy on my stomach. After, I was so bloated and I felt sick for about three hours.”

The challenge costs £20 to enter, but anyone who manages to finish it within 20 minutes gets the meal for free and wins £100. Jonny added: “I was the first to take it in and I’m pretty sure nobody will be able to complete it.

“It’s pure carbs. I even brought my own mint sauce for taste.”

Food fans said they were dying to take part. One person said: “I could 100% do this.” Another said: “Needs more gravy.” Someone else added: “No way you’re finishing that.”

A fourth person said: “A mountain of roasties, my idea of heaven.” Another person added: “If you made it into mash, it would have been so much easier to go down.”
