Adani Cement which includes Ambuja Cement and its related companies  announced on Friday that it is the first cement company in India to follow the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) guidelines. With this step Adani Cement becomes part of a small group of global cement makers that have started using this framework. The company said it will officially start using TNFD-based reporting from FY26. This means it will include nature-related risks impacts and opportunities in its business decisions and public reports. TNFD is a global system supported by groups like UNEP FI UNDP WWF and Global Canopy and it helps companies include nature and biodiversity concerns in their disclosures. Adani Cement said this move adds to the climate-related reporting it already does. The company pointed to its ongoing work such as planting more than 7 million trees achieving 12 times water positivity through water management efforts and carrying out biodiversity projects at its production sites. Vinod Bahety CEO of Adani Group’s cement business said “Using the TNFD framework is an important milestone for us. It supports our goal of nature-positive growth and climate leadership. We are proud to be the first in the Indian cement sector to commit to TNFD reporting because we believe responsible business is key to long-term success.” Ambuja Cements and ACC now sell several low-carbon cement and concrete products that are listed under GRIHA. More than 85 per cent of what they produce is blended cement which has a lower environmental impact. The company aims to use 30 percent alternative fuels and raw materials and reach 60 per cent green power by FY28. Adani Cement said that the cement industry’s move toward nature-related reporting is important for strong infrastructure growth and for the sector’s long-term stability. The company is one of seven cement makers in the world to adopt the TNFD framework. It is also one of only four large global cement companies with net-zero targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). In addition it is the first cement producer to join the Alliance for Industry Decarbonisation under IRENA.
