Nitish Kumar, the leader of the Janata Dal (United), is set to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Bihar for an unprecedented tenth time. This event follows a significant victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the recent assembly elections. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11:30 AM at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.
On Wednesday night, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President J.P. Nadda arrived in Patna ahead of Kumar's swearing-in. The ceremony will take place on Thursday at the iconic Gandhi Maidan.
State BJP President Dilip Jaiswal, along with senior party leaders Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, welcomed Shah and Nadda at the airport.
According to party sources, prior to the ceremony, Shah and Nadda are expected to meet with senior leaders from both JD(U) and BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several Chief Ministers from NDA-ruled states are likely to attend the event.
Special tents have been erected for VIP guests, and stringent security measures have been implemented throughout the venue. A senior BJP leader indicated that over three lakh people are anticipated to gather for the ceremony. The NDA has returned to power in Bihar's 243-member assembly, securing 202 seats, with BJP winning 89, JD(U) 85, LJP(RV) 19, HAM 5, and RLM 4 seats.
The new cabinet is expected to include 16 ministers from BJP and 14 from JD(U), including the party chief. In the previous government, BJP had 15 ministers, while JD(U) had 12, which included CM Nitish Kumar, along with one minister from the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and one independent candidate.
Sources suggest that an agreement has been reached among NDA partners to appoint BJP's Prem Kumar as the Assembly Speaker, while the Deputy Speaker position is likely to go to JD(U).
The new cabinet may introduce five to six new faces from the main NDA parties, BJP and JD(U). Umesh Singh Kushwaha, the JD(U) state chief who won from the Mahnar assembly seat, is expected to be included in the new cabinet. While JD(U) may retain its current ministers, BJP is likely to introduce some new members. Smaller coalition parties, including LJP (RV) led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan, HAM led by Jitan Ram Manjhi, and RLM led by Upendra Kushwaha, will also receive representation.
