The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has initiated a case against four individuals, including a former director and an ex-employee of Provogue India Limited, for allegedly defrauding the company of ₹90 crores. Officials provided this information.
Provogue India Limited, based in Mumbai, manufactures and sells a variety of products, including apparel and accessories for both men and women.
An official reported on Wednesday that the accused have been identified as Rakesh Rawat, the company's former director, and Sameer Khandelwal, a former employee, along with Amit Gupta, a resolution professional, and Arpit Khandelwal, a new buyer, among others. They allegedly conspired to undervalue the company's assets and intentionally delayed the auction process by two years to lower its market value, allowing Khandelwal to purchase the company.
Furthermore, it was noted that the accused failed to collect dues from clients for their own benefit. The complaint was filed by Nikhil Chaturvedi, the former managing director of Provogue India Limited, aged 55. The crime is reported to have occurred between 2018 and 2023. The accused face charges of fraud, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy, with investigations ongoing.
