Lord Shiva is considered extremely merciful, pleased even with a pot of water offered with a sincere heart, fulfilling the wishes of his devotees. Many devotees, instead of going to the temple, install a Shivalinga at home and worship it. Is it appropriate to keep a Shivalinga at home, and what are the rules for doing so?

Pandit Nandkishore Mudgal, a renowned astrologer at the Mudgal Astrology Center located at the Pagal Baba Ashram in Deoghar, provided detailed information on this matter.

Installing a Shivalinga at Home: Rules and Procedures

According to Astrologer Mudgal, installing a Shivalinga at home is fine; there is no harm in installing it, but certain specific rules must be followed:

Consecration and Size:
Whenever you bring a Shivalinga home, first consecrate it properly and only then begin worship.

The most important rule is that the Shivalinga should be no larger than a thumb.

Place of Worship:
Only if you have a proper prayer room in your home should you bring a Shivalinga and place it there. Otherwise, the installation of a Shivalinga should be avoided.

Rules for Purchasing:
If you have visited a pilgrimage site to worship, do not purchase a Shivalinga from there and bring it directly home.

What to do after offering water?
Those who have a Shivalinga in their home should worship and offer it food every day.

When performing the Abhishekam with water or milk, place the Shivalinga in a vessel.

The remaining water or milk should be poured into a river.

The Pandit said that Lord Shiva is as innocent as he is easily angered. Therefore, his worship should be performed with utmost discipline and purity.
