Harrigan’s videos documenting his cosmetic procedures began circulating widely on Tuesday, dominating TikTok and other social platforms across Australia, according to News.com.au.

Each clip opens with his now-familiar greeting: “Hello, I’m Jason from Australia.”

In the videos, he appears with a different doctor each time, all confirming their role in helping transform his appearance.

The unusual setup quickly caught public attention.

Viewers were perplexed that each video featured a different “before” photo and questioned why so many doctors appeared to be involved.

The confusion only fueled interest, propelling his videos to tens of millions of views.

Harrigan said that when he researched the cost of surgery in Australia, he was quoted $59,000—a sum he considered prohibitively expensive. After seeing a video from a Vietnamese clinic, he decided to fly to Hanoi in August for the procedure, which cost him $4,000, Daily Mail reported.

He opted to undergo the surgery without anesthesia. During the first few days, the surgical team removed nearly 6.5 cm of excess skin from his forehead and corrected his sagging, bulging eyelids.

He recalled that he was asked to film a TikTok video right after surgery.

A few days later, people were sending him screenshots asking whether he was really in Vietnam.

During the following week, he visited the clinic multiple times a day for check-ups.

Because different doctors handled different areas of his face, each asked to record a video with him, explaining why he appeared alongside so many specialists and inadvertently triggering online debates.

He emphasized that the surgery was for him, and the change has made him more confident.

Around 15,000 Australians travel overseas for medical treatment each year largely due to lower costs, according to the Victorian government’s Better Health website. However, experts have long warned of risks, including infections and complications from antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Medical tourism, with cosmetic surgery making up a significant portion, is becoming a major growth driver.

According to Grand View Research, the global medical tourism market is valued at approximately $31.09 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow to $87.33 billion by 2030, at an annual growth rate of about 18.47%.

Many tourists choose Asian countries to reduce beauty- expenses.

In South Korea, for example, dental tourism has become a major trend, driven by high-quality services and affordable prices. Even when including travel and accommodation costs, dental treatments in Korea remain significantly cheaper than similar procedures in the United States.

In Vietnam, the medical tourism market is projected to grow from about $700 million in 2024 to nearly $4 billion by 2033, averaging 18% growth annually.

In 2024, numerous foreign visitors shared their experiences with dental care in Vietnam, noting that prices were 20 to 40 times lower than in the U.S.
