Martin Kemp's wife has admitted she didn't want her husband to be the next James Bond.

Spandau Ballet star Martin - who is currently an I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here camper - was once in the running to play 007 but wife Shirlie has confessed that she was a little concerned about it.

Discussing it on ITV's This Morning, she shared that Martin, now 64, was in his 30s at the time.

"I remember him going for the audition," she said. "I was worried, I didn't know if I wanted my husband to be the next Bond."

"That's too much pressure," she continued. "It's like, oh my goodness, if he became Bond, what would that mean?"

"And all those actresses around him. I was like, 'Oh, I don't know if I want him to be the next Bond'."

Shirlie, who has been married to Martin since 1988, also thought that her hubby's accent could rule him out of slipping into the role of the suave spy. "He has got a Cockney accent," she explained. "So I wasn't sure if he's... I've never heard of Cockney Bond."

She added that she could not recall when Martin was up for the part but that she remembered he was in his 30s at the time.

Shirlie, who is mum to TV presenter son Roman with Martin, also talked to This Morning presenters Rochelle Humes and Dermot O'Leary about how her hubby was getting on in the jungle camp.

The hosts suggested that Martin was the "camp dad" and Shirlie replied: "Oh, absolutely, that's in his nature. You know, he's not going to pretend to be like that. People will... I think they've already said it, you know, Martin, like the father figure."

She admitted that she did "feel a bit embarrassed" watching Martin on the show, explaining: "I'm thinking, what's he going to say? I feel cringy. And also, the next day, everyone's going to say, 'Oh, I heard this, heard that about you'."

This Morning airs from 10am on ITV on weekdays.
