The Uttar Pradesh government has revised the holiday schedule for the commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day, leaving many residents confused about whether banks will remain open on 25 November. Initially, the holiday was listed for 24 November, but the state authorities shifted the observance to 25 November instead. This decision has brought clarity for schools and government offices—but what about banking services?

To help clear the confusion, here’s everything you need to know about bank operations in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, 25 November 2025.

Government Offices and Schools Will Remain Closed

As per the new government circular, all state government departments, government-aided institutions, private and government schools, as well as colleges across Uttar Pradesh will stay closed on 25 November. The shift in date was officially confirmed to ensure that the holiday is observed on the day marked in the updated calendar.

Every year, Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day is commemorated on 24 November. However, since 23 November 2025 falls on a Sunday, keeping the holiday on the 24th would have resulted in a two-day break for students and employees. Many had already started planning for an extended weekend, but the sudden rescheduling has altered those expectations.

Will Banks in UP Be Closed on 25 November?

The biggest concern for many residents revolves around banking operations. With schools and government departments taking a day off, customers expected banks to remain closed as well.

However, according to the official bank holiday notifications released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), 25 November is not listed as a bank closure day in Uttar Pradesh for Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Martyrdom Day.

This means:

Banks will remain open across UP on 25 November
All regular banking services will function as usual
✔ Customers can visit branches for transactions without any restrictions

Although banks will operate normally, some branches could experience reduced staff due to the state-level holiday being observed by non-bank employees.

Online banking, UPI, ATM withdrawals, mobile banking apps, cheque drop facilities, and financial transfers will continue as usual across the state.

Remaining Bank Holidays in November 2025

Apart from Sundays, only a few additional bank holidays are scheduled for November:

  • 22 November – Fourth Saturday (banks closed nationwide)

  • 23 November – Sunday (weekly closure)

  • 30 November – Sunday (weekly closure)

Because 25 November is not classified as a bank holiday by RBI, residents should not expect any nationwide banking disruption.

Why the Change in Holiday Date Matters

The unexpected revision has impacted travel and personal plans across the state. Many employees and school-goers had been preparing for back-to-back holidays on 23 and 24 November. Once the notification shifted the celebration to 25 November, those arrangements had to be reconsidered.

Despite the inconvenience, officials emphasized that the date adjustment ensures the holiday aligns better with public administrative planning and ceremonial observance.

Bottom Line

Date Occasion Banks in UP Schools & Govt Offices
24 November 2025 Earlier planned Guru Tegh Bahadur Martyrdom Day Open Open
25 November 2025 Revised holiday as per UP Govt Open Closed

So, if you have important work at the bank on Tuesday, you can go ahead without worries—branches will remain open across Uttar Pradesh
