Lakshya Sen defeats Yushi Tanaka to claim Australian Open Badminton Title 2025, secures BIG prize money

New Delhi:  Star Indias badminton player Lakshya Sen has won his maiden title of 2025. In the final of the BWF Super 500 Australian Open held at the State Sports Centre in Sydney Lakshya completely dominated Japans Yushi Tanaka winning the title in straight games. In the final clash Lakshya Sen showcased rock-solid defense and lighting-fast precise attacks leaving Japans Yushi Tanaka struggling. He took the first set 21-15 and the second set was completely one-sided with Lakshya sealing the match 21-11 to end his title drought. Tanaka made a series of errors Lakshya started off briliantly building a 6-3 lead as Tanaka made a series of errors. A 35-shot rally ended with the Japanese shuttler hitting the net and a fortunate net cord finally ended Lakshyas streak of points. Tanaka attempted to stay competitive but two long shots handed Lakshya five game points which he quickly converted when Tanaka again sent a shuttle into the net. The second game became completely one-sided with Lakshya maintaining high intensity and delivering fast flat returns throughout. Sen took only 80 minutes to win his semifinal but the final lasted just 38 minutes. In the semi-final match he defeated world no. 6 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei staging a strong comebcak after dropping the first game. Lakshya Sen became only the second Indian male to win the Australian Open title After the victory Lakshya spoke about his hard work that finally paid off despite facing several ups and downs throughout the season. I have seen a lot of ups and downs this season with a few injuries at the start of the season. But I kept my hard work going throughout the season and I am very happy to end the season on a good note said Lakshya. Im very excited looking forward to the next season now and I am really happy with the way I played today and this week added the Indian shuttler who said the focus was on winning each point rather than getting carried away. In the second set I was quite far off in the lead but I didnt want to get too inside my head so I wouldnt relax too much. In the back of my mind it was there but I was just trying to focus on playing one point at a time he said. Lakshya Sen earned big prize money Lakshya Sen became only the second Indian male after Kidambi Srikanth in 2017 to win the Australian Open title. This historic triumph earned him Rs 31944000 crore in prize money. It also marked his third Super 500 title following victories at the Indian Open in 2022 and the Canadian Open in 2023.
